Train and operate in the eight geographic disciplines of Temperate, Arctic, Desert, Tropic, Coastal, Open Sea, Urban and Captivity, day or night
Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) is a training program best known by its military acronym that prepares U.S. Military personnel, U.S. Department of Defense civilians, and private military contractors to survive and 'return with honor' in varied survival scenarios.The curriculum includes survival skills, evading capture, application of the military code of conduct, and methods. SERE Instructor develops, manages, and conducts Air Force survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) programs. Develops, conducts, manages, and evaluates SERE Code of Conduct training (CoCT) and Code of Conduct Continuation training (CoCCT), and personnel recovery (PR) operational support programs.
Provide direct support in Personnel Recovery (PR) programs through preparation, planning, execution, and adaptation
Organize and conduct SERE training activities and instruct on the use of related equipment
Perform and instruct basic, advanced, and emergency military parachuting

Minimum Education Completion of high school with eleventh-grade reading level ASVAB Requirements General Qualifications- Successful completion of the SERE physical ability and stamina test (PAST)
- Minimum score of 55 on SERE selection model completed in Tailored Adaptive Personality Assessment System (TAPAS)
- Meet psychological requirements for the SERE Specialist Training Orientation Course
- Ability to complete a four-mile ruck march with a 60-pound pack in 60 minutes or less
- Absence of any speech impediment and ability to read aloud and speak distinctly
- Normal color vision
- Meet FCIII physical and psychological qualifications for SERE Specialists and parachutist duty
- Completion of a current National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit
- Completion of 8.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 39

SERE specialists are trained to survive in every environment, so their tools must be up for every challenge.

FIELD TRAINING
A lightweight ruck enables SERE specialists to carry all their essential survival gear, including a shelter kit, pack stove and water purification systems on their backs while performing field duties.
MEDICAL KIT
Medical kits are carried in case of emergencies or accidents during field training. Each kit includes tourniquets, gauze, epinephrine pens, pressure dressings, bandages and more.
STANDARD SURVIVAL
SERE specialists equip themselves with a variety of tools to strengthen their ability to survive and improvise in any situation. These include an axe and handsaw to cut firewood, a folding blade to prepare game and a metal match to light fires.
DIVE GEAR
To perform dive duties and underwater rescues, SERE specialists use a variety of equipment, including a dive system to stay underwater for unlimited periods of time, a dive knife to eliminate entanglements and an escape breathing system to remain undetected underwater.
OPEN-OCEAN SAFETY
Personal flotation devices, helmets and fins are used for open-ocean travel.
COMMUNICATIONS AND SIGNALING
A multiband radio, night vision monocular, infrared strobe, mirror signal and camo paint are all used to teach others how to communicate with a rescue team and remain concealed from aggressors in the event of a recovery mission.
SEARCH AND EVACUATION
As part of their search and evacuation training, SERE specialists use helmets, harnesses, gloves and carabiners to rescue missing personnel and extract patients.
PARACHUTING OPERATIONS
An altimeter, safety helmet, MC6 parachute with jumpable ruck and reserve parachute are all used to teach emergency parachuting operations.
COMBATIVES EQUIPMENT
As part of combat training, SERE specialists focus on maneuvers that prevent capture. They practice striking, clinch and ground fighting, and train to fight with restraints and with or without weapons.
ARCTIC GEAR
As part of their arctic training, SERE specialists use snowshoes to navigate the harsh terrain and snow shovels to build shelters such as igloos.
